but keep the old.
One is silver,
the other is gold.
A circle is round,
it has no end.
That's how long,
I will be your friend.
A fire burns bright,
it warms the heart.
We've been friends,
from the very start.
You have one hand,
I have the other.
Put them together,
We have each other.

Gold is too.
I am precious,
and so are you.
You help me,
and I'll help you
and together
we will see it through.
The sky is blue
The Earth is green
I can help
to keep it clean
Across the land
Across the sea
Friends forever
We will always be
I know there are people out there who will remember this song from Girl Scout Camp. I know I do. Sitting by the campfire at Camp Wind-A-Mere enjoying all the fun things Girl Scout Camp brought into my life. Those were some of the happiest times in my life. I cherish all the memories.
I suppose you are wondering where this post is going. Well, I said goodbye to a friend last month. I sent my beloved Bernina 1630 to a new home. I was sad to see it go. I spent many an hour with her. Not all of them were pleasant. She and I made several "wads", as I like to call them, together. For the most part It was enjoyable and relaxing.
In her place I have new friend, my Viking Topaz 30. I hope this friendship will be long and happy. I have had this machine since October. She and I have had a great time getting to know each other.
How can one form a friendship with a sewing machine? It is easy. Just as with a person, you must learn all the idiosyncrasies of the machine. A new sewing machine is likely to produce tears, just as a friend will do . A new sewing machine will bolster your confidence. A new machine teach you to push the outside of the envelope, branch out, and try new things just as friend will do. That is what I have been doing. Along the way I have made some wonderful new friends that are actually flesh and blood.
Last week, while at a new owners class, I had the chance to help out another grandmother by embroidering an apron for her grandchild. It was such a refreshing afternoon. I was so blessed by this chance encounter. A new friend.
I look forward to learning new things, and to meeting more friends. I will always cherish the memories of my "gold" friends, but I am excited by the prospect of gaining "silver" friends in these my silver years.
